Silvere: Data Analyst Trainee

Type: 4-6 months trainee period, preferably full-time, part-time negotiable (possibility to discuss about continuation after trainee period)
Preferred background: End of studies – graduated
Work hours: 38 hours per week (flexible)

Forestry value chain plays a significant role in the global economy and will have an important role in the fight against climate change and ensuring a high level of biodiversity. Yet over the last 100 years, decision-making in forestry has been largely based on rough estimates and averages. Silvere changes the game by bringing unforeseen practices to the field of forestry. By utilizing the latest technologies including robotics, 3D imaging, big data and advanced analytics, Silvere has redefined forest management and made it possible to analyze and plan the forest at the accuracy of an individual tree as well as automate every aspect of managing the forests.

Silvere is looking for a Data Analyst Trainee to join their industry changing forest data science team of highly talented people! This is a unique growth opportunity for a junior, who wants to kick-start her/his career in forestry industry and data analytics. At the beginning, you get to develop your skills with GIS in stand delineation tasks, and in the long run you have the chance to strengthen your skills in forest planning simulation and optimization.

The ideal candidate for this role has a hands-on attitude towards work and motivation to develop new approaches for forest industry. In this position it is also important to understand the needs of forest industry customers, so previous work experience from the field helps you to succeed as a Data Analyst Trainee. Silvere is preferably looking for someone who can work full-time, but the work times can also be flexible, if you still have some studies left.

Requirements for the applicant:
– Relevant study background from university (preferably forestry related courses included in studies)
– Knowledge of GIS (QGIS)
– Basic data analytic skills with Python or R
– Theoretical understanding of remote sensing technology
– Proficiency in English, Finnish skills are seen as an advantage
– In addition, previous work experience (e.g. summer job) from forest management planning, GIS or signal processing projects are seen as an advantage
